Meet the shopkeeper: Rachel of The Wearer, London

We are really pleased that you can now find a selection of our necklaces in store  at The WearerWe thought it would be nice to find out more about the London boutique from owner, Rachel.

Hi Rachel, can you tell us a little about yourself and why you set up The Wearer?

I've always been a little obsessed with jewellery.  Costume jewellery was my passion and I specialised in buying jewellery and accessories for High St brands for about 15 years.  I loved my job and I was very lucky that my role was always a very creative one, but I became pretty disillusioned by the world of fast fashion and after a round of redundancies I took it as an opportunity to create something for myself and hopefully support talented, local crafts people in the process.

Where can we find The Wearer?

We’re tucked away in Islington on Charlton Place, part of Camden Passage Its an atmospheric pedestrianised area that feels like stumbling on a secret street. It used to be famous for its antiques shops and markets which still happen on a smaller scale, but is now home to some fabulous independent shops and cafes. Definitely worth a visit!
And you can find me online of course at www.thewearer.com
Can you highlight 3 pieces from the store you are excited about this Christmas?

I’m very excited about all the pieces from OWME! My personal favourite is the Konstantin. I wear so much black anyway and lockdown has made me really lazy with getting dressed up (I know I’m not alone) but the red cord really pops and its so easy to chuck on for an instant style update. And frankly it just makes me smile! Maybe I’ll treat myself :)
If I was really going to splurge on loved one this Christmas? Personally I can’t take my eyes off the Super Solar Ring from Shimell & Madden. Its hypnotically beautiful with its concentric rings and bright blue/green Tourmeline. We started offering non-traditional engagement rings this year and this is about as non-traditional as you can get but its going to make someone very happy!
I’m cheating by highlighting three styles in one but Niza Huang has created a trio of 9ct gold and baroque pearl earrings for the store.. They’re beautifully feminine but with a contemporary twist which is really reflective of her style.
Can you recommend some other nice stores or cafes to visit in your area?

Camden Passage is full shops and cafes that I love. In-Residence is great for unique interiors pieces, Paul A Young makes the most amazing chocolate for when you really need a treat (I eat WAY too many of their chocolate smothered brownie bites), fabulous high end vintage fashion at Dear Prudence and for coffee and Sachertore I recommend Kipferl, an atmospheric Austrian cafe.

What are you looking forward to this Christmas?

I’m sneaking off to the middle of nowhere with my partner for a few days straight after the xmas chaos finishes. It's going to be super low key. I have BIG plans for 2021….we all do!!

Thanks so much Rachel - Hope we can visit soon.
Wishing you a lovely Christmas time!
